Circularity

What goes around, comes around? At least it should. Circularity is the foundation of a sustainable maritime industry, and this has been the ambition for Rustibus since the company was established in 1978. To reach a fully circular value chain and minimize our environmental footprint, we work closely with our suppliers on the R&D side and with our clients on the innovation and onboard customizing side. Delivering premium circularity and sustainability is only possible together with ambitious, conscious, and innovative clients and suppliers.

Products and R&D

Our design and choice of materials makes up the foundation for the long lifespan on our machines and their consumable spare parts. Our focus is on designing, producing, and using products in a way that minimizes impact and waste, and maximizes the value of resources. We constantly consider how our products can be reused, repurposed, or recycled at the end of their life cycle.

Sustainable Sourcing

About 90% of our machines are sourced from Norway, to ensure that we can monitor and follow up that we deliver top quality to our clients from Head Quarters. The other 10% are sourced locally to our other worldwide locations. This is to save on transport and reduce emission. It is our requirement to secure a sustainable future for the generations to come.

Packaging and Freight

We are moving away from plastic and other non-degradable materials in our packaging and have introduced plastic free wrapping for our machines, spare parts, and consumables. We are sourcing our freight options carefully choosing the most conscious companies, and airfreight is only an option when its urgent for our clients.

Operation – Removal of rust and old paint

We are confident that we serve our customers the best and most sustainable solution for removal of rust and old paint onboard ships. And as we allow for waste collection during operation, we make sustainable maintenance possible for shipowners worldwide.

Sustainability Goals

We are passionate about creating sustainable solutions for the maritime industry. The 2030 agenda for sustainable development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals: The SDGs, which are an urgent call for action. At Rustibus we stand for SDG 12, 13 and 14 and we call them The Rustibus Sustainability goals!

SDG 12 is all about our footprint and ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns. It aims to reduce the environmental impact of human activities and it is a crucial element in ensuring a more sustainable future for our planet. Rustibus is committed to SDG 12 by creating products that are designed for minimum emissions, improve efficiency, and promote sustainability. Our solutions are specifically designed to minimize the environmental impact within its specific type of maintenance onboard ships. With this dedication to responsible consumption and production, we aim to set an example for other companies to follow and contribute to a more sustainable future for us all.

SDG 13 is here to fight climate change and the environmental impact of all our actions. Everything we do, administration, R&D, production, and shipments has an impact on the environment. And we have an impact on our footprint everyday by being conscious of this. With our commitment to ESG reporting we will calculate our footprints and set goals for a sustainable future with an active reduce, reuse, and recycle mindset.

SDG 14 Clean ships and clean oceans! This development goal reminds us to conserve and enjoy our oceans and marine resources for sustainable development. Whatever the job is, we need to keep our waste out of our oceans! The annual maintenance done by Rustibus machines generate 3.730 tons of paint chip waste, and we dare to say that waste collection is the only way to go. Paint is plastic and we need to make sure that this waste does not end up in our ocean worldwide. Achieving SDG 14 is crucial for protecting the planet's biodiversity and ensuring a healthy, sustainable future for our planet.

Rustibus® Clean Ocean

Paint is plastic. Preventing it from ending up in our ocean is essential for the health of our marine ecosystems. We are committed to being part of the solution and we strongly emphasize waste collection as a crucial component of our efforts.

Environment Protection

As an international company we believe that our environment is entitled to the same level of protection regardless of geography. We are highly committed to ensure that all our products are developed, produced, and maintained in the most sustainable way, meeting all the requirements without compromising the ability and foundation of future generations.

To ensure a consistent approach to sustainability we have developed a global handbook supported by our board and management, implemented across our offices, and proudly shared with our clients and suppliers worldwide.

Plastic offsetting

Plastic offsetting is a way to address plastic pollution by compensating for plastic that we use. This involves calculating our plastic footprint, which is the amount of plastic waste that we generate through our daily activities, as well as within packaging and shipments. Once we have calculated our plastic footprint, we work to offset our plastic use by taking part in organized beach clean-ups as well as our own clean-ups and reduce the amount of plastic waste in the environment.

By offsetting our plastic use, we raise awareness of our footprint, and we get a genuine attitude within our company towards our impact and that we can reduce our impact. This is a simple and effective way to act against plastic pollution and the use of non-biodegradable materials, and more importantly to do our part for a more sustainable future.
